Our Auto Body Team in St. Louis, Missouri

Hunter Auto Body opened on Gravois Road in 1973 and has stayed in the same family since. Five decades in one location is unusual in this trade, and it changes how a shop behaves: we run into our customers at the grocery store.

Jack Hunter

The owner is a full-time firefighter and first responder. He runs this shop around that schedule, and the overlap is not incidental. Both jobs involve meeting people on the worst day of their week and being the person who explains, calmly, what happens next.

Customers tend to write about that specifically. One described him as genuinely wanting you to understand the insurance process so nobody takes advantage of you. Another, after her first accident, said she never felt steered and that the advice she got was in her interest rather than the shop's.

What the credentials mean

I-CAR trains the collision industry. Plenty of shops complete basic coursework; Platinum and Gold are the top designations, and they require ongoing role-specific training rather than a one-time class. ASE certification tests competency across repair disciplines independently. Our technicians hold both.

Kyle handles much of the customer contact, and reviewers regularly name him. One wrote that Kyle was patient, listened to understand, and built confidence in the business through how he answered questions. That is the standard here.

Independence, deliberately

We take no insurance referral agreements. There is no third party setting our labor times or steering our parts sourcing. The trade-off is that we have to earn each job on reputation, which after fifty years and roughly 181 reviews averaging 4.9 stars appears to be working.

Stop in at 8014 Gravois Rd and ask us anything about your vehicle.
